New "Monsters Are Go!" Illustration

Here's Miles, a character of mine from my all ages comic "Monsters Are Go!", enjoying some free time. I might make a print out of this?

The New Year...

Despite an unjust war and an economic collapse, I am optimistically looking forward to the New Year. Things are gonna start changing around here. And by here, I don't just mean in our country. I mean things are going to start changing with this blog, my website, and my work. Now I know this isn't important to the world at large, but I am still stoked.

The look of my website and blog will be different. The branding is going to change. I've used the same branding for years now and frankly, I'm in a different place now. Sure there will still be monsters and zombies and all that dark stuff, but I've expanded my interests. Things need to change to reflect that. If you'd like to hear more on branding, I was on my friend Javier Hernandez's podcast, Javiland, speaking about just that subject along with some other fine cartoonists. Additionally, I plan to update my website and blog more regularly. My website has had the same stuff on it for way too long. I know its my fault I haven't learned how to build or work on a website before, but that is changing too. All of these changes to the website and blog might not happen on January 1st, but they will happen as soon as possible afterwards. Lastly, I'm going to return to making the Blogcast.

My personal workload is full of projects I am really excited to get to. The one I'm probably most excited about is my all ages comic book "Monsters Are Go!". If my math is correct, I should be finished with the first 96 page book by the Summer. There are also going be more mini-comics produced in conjunction with the Mini-Comics Dump Truck. I have some other comic projects in the works that I'll be talking about later, but for now, I don't want to spoil any surprises. I'm also planning to open an online store this next year with all my comics, mini-comics, prints, buttons, and original art. Finally, I'm itching to get back to painting. I have a series of paintings I need to revisit as well as a bunch of ideas for new ones.

The home studio and my workspace at Periscope are getting a makeover too. Its been a year with the setups I have now at both those spots, and , I know you artists will understand, its always nice to change your work environment from time to time in order to fight stagnation. I'll do a post about it with before and after pictures in the future.

I hope you all have a happy holiday season and a great New Year! I'm looking forward to it. Hope I get to run into some of you at a convention or maybe an art show this year too. Have fun!

"Monsters Are Go!" Button Set

I did these designs several months ago, but neglected to post them at the time. This is a button set of the faces of the main characters from my all ages comic "Monsters Are Go!". I will have these available at comic conventions, art shows, and on my Etsy store in the near future. The characters going from left to right are Gordon the Muck Monster, Miles the Mystery Ape, and Kalliope Kaiju. The first "Monsters Are Go!" book will be available sometime next year.

"Down By The Water" finished page...

Here's a sample of a finished toned page from my newest mini-comic. I'm leaning toward printing it out at home or using a print on demand service. I don't think a copy shop can handle this range of grays without the image looking muddy. I could be wrong?
